
Engineer Colonel - 2001-2002 - Acting Chief of the Military Topographic Directorate
CRISTIAN-PAUL SARCHIS was born on July 10, 1949, in Bucharest.
He attended primary school for seven years in Bucharest from 1956 to 1963 and then the Gheorghe Şincai High School in Bucharest, graduating in 1967.
In March 1968, he began his military service, and on November 8 of the same year, he entered the Military Technical Academy, Faculty of Construction, specializing in geodesy engineering, graduating in 1973 with an average grade of 9.25.
After graduation, holding the rank of lieutenant, he was assigned as an assistant in the re-assembly office of the Photogrammetry Section of the Cartography and Photogrammetry Unit in Bucharest.
From 1973 to 1976, he served as Officer 4, and from August 1974, as Officer 3, within the topographic workshop of the Cartography and Photogrammetry Unit.
He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant major in December 1976.
On August 16, 1978, he was appointed Officer 3 in the small-scale map engraving workshop within the Cartography Section of the Cartography and Photogrammetry Unit.
On June 24, 1981, he was appointed Officer 3 in the Information Systems Implementation Formation of the Data Processing Collective at the Computing Office, and on June 30, 1984, Officer 2 in the same structure.
He was promoted to the rank of captain on August 23, 1981.
From September 1981 to June 1982, he attended a Russian language course at the Military Academy, and in 1983, a course in programming and use of the FELIX-M minicomputers, as well as a course in mini-computer programming techniques.
In 1985, he attended a postgraduate course in military geodesy and topography at the Military Technical Academy.
On May 28, 1990, he was certified as a scientific researcher and appointed head of the Information Systems Implementation Formation within the Computing Office. He was promoted to the rank of major on August 23, 1987, and on October 25, 1990, to the exceptional rank of lieutenant colonel.
From January 1, 1991, he was appointed Officer 1 in the development, documentation, marketing, and collaboration office of the Planning, Development, and Marketing Section of the Military Topographic Directorate.
On February 1, he was appointed head of the coordination and forecasting office within the Coordination-Development Section of the Military Topographic Directorate.
On November 5, 1995, he was appointed head of the Topogeodetic Assurance Section within the Military Topographic Directorate.
He was promoted to the rank of colonel on December 1, 1995.
On April 1, 2000, he was appointed deputy head of the Military Topographic Directorate, and from August 1, 2001, he was authorized to perform the duties of head of the Military Topographic Directorate.
On April 15, 2002, he was retired.
He passed away on December 30, 2009, at the age of 60.
