Ministry of National Defense

Objectives:

  • Ensuring the geographical support of the Romanian Army and, upon request, of other structures within the Defense, Public Order, and National Security System, as well as NATO/PfP/EU structures, according to GEO-1, Instructions for geographical support in the Romanian Army, approved by Order of the Minister of National Defense no. M.173 from 25.11.2004.
  • Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling geographical support within the Ministry of National Defense.
  • Developing the concept for equipping structures of the Ministry of National Defense with geospatial products and topogeodetic equipment.
  • Performing aerial photogrammetry services and creating orthophoto maps in Romania, and digitizing and updating the Agricultural Parcel Identification System for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, according to GEO no. 21/2010, approved with amendments by Law no. 136/2010.
  • Creating spatial data sets for themes assigned to the Ministry of National Defense, in accordance with the provisions of Government Ordinance no. 4/2010, approved with Law 190/2010 for the establishment of the National Spatial Information Infrastructure.
  • Creating, maintaining, and managing the INIS geoportal – the Ministry of National Defense component, according to Government Ordinance no. 4/2010 regarding the establishment of the National Spatial Information Infrastructure in Romania.
  • Ensuring the protection of classified information during national territory aerial photography operations carried out by civil individuals and legal entities, according to Law no. 182/2002 on the protection of classified information and Government Decision no. 585/2002 for the approval of National Standards for the Protection of Classified Information in Romania, with subsequent amendments.
  • Performing cadastral technical documentation, according to Law no. 7/1996 on cadastre and real estate publicity, with subsequent amendments, and judicial technical expertise for properties managed/owned by the Ministry of National Defense.
  • Participating in the Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP), according to the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding by the Supreme Council of National Defense no. M2462/08.08.2006.
  • Cooperating with military and civil institutions in the field, both domestically and internationally, to fulfill geographical support missions.
  • Training personnel of the Defense Geospatial Information Agency "Division General Constantin Barozzi" and the GEOINT Technical Center "Division General Constantin I. Brătianu".
  • Training, coordinating, and evaluating military topogeodesy specialists and geographical support officers within the Ministry of National Defense.
  • Ensuring the protection of classified information within the Defense Geospatial Information Agency "Division General Constantin Barozzi" and the GEOINT Technical Center "Division General Constantin I. Brătianu".

Mission:

  • Creating and updating geospatial products in accordance with NATO Geospatial Policy and NATO, EU, and national specific standards, necessary for the geographical support of the Romanian Army and, upon request, other structures within the Defense, Public Order, and National Security System, the Government of Romania, NATO, and the EU.
