
Engineer Colonel - 2005 - Head of the Military Topographic Directorate
GEORGEL CIOCOIU was born on January 29, 1954, in the village of Drăgotești, Dolj County.
He attended general school from 1961 to 1969 in his native village, then the "Tudor Vladimirescu" Theoretical High School in Târgu Jiu, graduating in 1974.
Between 1974 and 1977, he attended the "Ioan Vodă" Military Artillery School in Sibiu, specializing in topography. Upon graduation, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to the Geodesy and Topography Unit in Buzău as a platoon commander.
From 1978 to 1979, he served as officer 4 in the restitution workshop in the Topography Section of the same unit.
In 1981, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-major and, in June 1982, became officer 3, with combat training, at the Geodesy and Topography Unit.
In 1982, he attended a training course for topogeodetic officers.
Starting in 1983, he enrolled at the Faculty of Mathematics at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași, graduating in 1987.
On June 6, 1984, he was transferred to the Cartography and Photogrammetry Unit in Bucharest and appointed officer 3 in the topographic workshop within the Photogrammetry Section.
In 1987, he was assigned as officer 3 in the aerotriangulation and rectification workshop of the Photogrammetry Section. On August 11, 1988, he was promoted to head of this workshop, and on November 10, 1989, he was appointed officer 2 in the Research Laboratory of the Military Astronomical Observatory.
In 1989, after attending the topographer officer training course, he was appointed scientific researcher at the Research Laboratory of the Military Astronomical Observatory.
On January 1, 1991, after the reorganization of the Cartography and Photogrammetry Unit, he was appointed scientific researcher in the Photogrammetry, Cartography, and Remote Sensing Research Laboratory of the Military Topogeodesy Research and Design Institute.
In 1995, he was appointed officer 1 in the Operations, Combat Training, Mobilization, and Education Section of the Military Topographic Directorate, and in 1997, officer 1 in the Research and Development Section.
In 1997, he graduated from the Faculty of Geodesy at the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest.
On March 22, 2000, he was appointed first deputy commander of the Military Topogeodesy Research and Design Institute.
In 2001, he attended the unique post-university leadership course for engineering officers.
On April 15, 2002, he was appointed head of the Geographic Assurance Section within the Military Topographic Directorate. On January 8, 2004, he became the deputy head of the Directorate.
On January 15, 2005, he was empowered to perform the duties of head of the Military Topographic Directorate, and from July 1, 2005, he was appointed head of the Directorate.
He was relieved from the position of head of the Military Topographic Directorate on July 12, 2005, and appointed head of service in the State Security Structure of the General Staff.
On August 31, 2005, he was retired.
