Lieutenant General Engineer - 1968-1984 - Head of the Military Topographic Directorate


VASILE DRAGOMIR was born on April 1, 1922, in the commune of Buda (now Mihăilești), Giurgiu County.

He attended six grades of primary school in his native commune until 1935 and eight grades of high school, which he completed in 1943.

Starting on August 1, 1943, he became a student at the Military School of Artillery Officers for a two-year course. After graduating, on May 10, 1945, he was promoted to second lieutenant and appointed “platoon commander P.S.” in the 13th Artillery Regiment.

On June 4, 1945, his personal file states: "unlimited leave / used as transport supervisor in the records office" at the same regiment. On July 25, 1945, he was appointed "commander of the Comana subcenter, at the Vlasca exploitation center." On May 1, 1946, he was promoted to section commander at the 13th Artillery Regiment. From July 10, 1946, he was assigned as an “information officer” at the 23rd Artillery Regiment, and from 1949, he was named "head of the information service at Military Political School No. 1."

On August 23, 1949, he was promoted to lieutenant. He was appointed battery commander at the Artillery Officers’ School on October 28, 1950, and from March 19, 1951, he became head of the personnel records office.

Starting on September 1, 1951, he attended the General Military Academy, Faculty of Military Technology, Geodesy Department. On August 23, 1952, he was promoted to lieutenant major and, on the same day, to captain. After graduation, as the top of his class, on November 14, 1955, he was "assigned for placement," and from November 18, 1955, he was appointed state engineer at the Geodetic Detachment.

He was promoted to major on August 23, 1956, and appointed chief of staff of the Geodetic Detachment on October 5, 1957. On September 1, 1961, he became the head of the Geodesy and Topography Unit.

He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 30, 1961, and appointed deputy head of the Military Topographic Directorate on December 1, 1962.

On February 28, 1969, he was appointed head of the Military Topographic Directorate, a position he held for 15 years until February 2, 1984, when he was transferred to the National Council for Land Fund Management, to "lead the work of the State Inspectorate for Land Fund Management."

He was promoted to major general on May 6, 1971, and to lieutenant general on December 30, 1982.

On June 18, 1984, he was appointed vice president of the Ministry of National Defense's Supreme Commission for Regulations, and on the same date, he was transferred to the National Council for Land Fund Management.

He was retired on February 5, 1987.

He passed away on December 31, 2007, at the age of 85.
